1 pleasant surprise who stood out for Hawks during 2021 NBA training camp

During the 2019 NBA Draft, Atlanta Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk selected 6-foot-6 guard Tyree Griffin with the 27th overall pick. Griffin was a pleasant surprise during training camp in 2021, and he has earned himself an NBA contract for the upcoming season.

The hawks nba is a team that has had some great players in the past. They are not always able to produce results, but they always seem to have 1 pleasant surprise who stands out for Hawks during 2021 NBA training camp.

The Atlanta Hawks are coming off a successful 2020-21 season, which included a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. Before the start of last season, many people pegged Atlanta as a playoff team, but few would have guessed that they would be two victories away from reaching the NBA Finals. Expectations for them are obviously greater for the next season. However, with the Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets retaining their status as the East’s best, taking the next step may prove to be a significant struggle.

During the 2021-22 season, the Hawks will need some of its young players to stand up and take a step forward. With the way he stood out for Atlanta throughout training camp, it seems like Cam Reddish will be the most probable breakthrough candidate.

Reddish’s star potential has a lot of Hawks supporters excited, and for good reason. The 22-year-old has a lot to prove this season, particularly following an injury-plagued sophomore season in which he only played in 26 games due to an Achilles ailment.

In the Eastern Conference Finals, Reddish returned and put up respectable statistics, leading many Hawks supporters to think that great things are in store for the rookie winger this season. In those four games, the former Duke star averaged 12.8 points and 3.5 rebounds, shooting 52.8 percent from the field and 64.3 percent from long range. While the sample size is tiny, the fact that he performed well in the East Finals despite missing so much time due to injury indicates he is unfazed and ready for the spotlight.

Reddish has a lot of self-assurance. That didn’t seem to be the case in their season-ending Game 6 loss to the Bucks, in which he scored 21 points and hit six 3-pointers.

Reddish, on the other hand, felt compelled to return to his origins in order to recover his “old self.” Reddish allegedly returned to his birthplace of Norristown, Pennsylvania this summer, according to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. He spent most of his summer exercising there, hoping to reclaim his form as the country’s No. 2 recruit in the class of 2018.

Reddish spent a lot of time working on his shooting and ball-handling, according to Kirschner. To contribute to the Hawks this season, the 6-foot-8 winger understands that he must improve his shooting from beyond the arc. Reddish’s case is further aided by the fact that he arrived at training camp in perfect health. He seemed sprightly and displayed a more assured outside stroke.

Only time will tell whether Reddish is capable of launching a successful campaign. To say the least, the early preseason returns have been a mixed bag. In their defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, he led the team in scoring with 20 points and performed well defensively, grabbing five steals. However, he struggled with his shooting early in the game, which was partly owing to some poor shot choices.

Regardless, Hawks head coach Nate McMillan will continue to assess what type of role Reddish will play this season for the team. He still has room for improvement, especially in terms of how he reads the game. There’s no doubting, however, that he’s put in the effort. It should only be a matter of time until he realizes what’s going on and flees.
