2 reasons Grizzlies must sign Norman Powell after Pelicans trade

The Memphis Grizzlies must sign Norman Powell after the New Orleans Pelicans traded him. He is a versatile player who can help the team in multiple ways and has an impressive 3-point shot.

The grizzlies nba is a team that has been struggling to find success. They are currently 26-34 on the season and are 5th in the Western Conference. Norman Powell would be a great addition for this struggling team.

The Grizzlies may seek to acquire an athletic scoring guard to pair with franchise superstar Ja Morant after trading for Steven Adams with the New Orleans Pelicans to provide additional depth to their frontcourt. Norman Powell would be an excellent addition for them this summer to help strengthen their backcourt and provide a significant improvement at shooting guard.

Morant and Powell would give the Grizzles a dangerous backcourt with their speed, agility, and scoring ability. Signing Powell would also provide them with a full starting five, allowing them to improve the Western Conference standings and perhaps earn a five seed in the NBA Playoffs. Following all of that, let’s look at two reasons why the Grizzlies need to sign Norman Powell after the Pelicans deal.

Keys to the Grizzlies:

With Ja Morant, Norman Powell would make an outstanding scoring backcourt.

With Ja Morant already demonstrating how explosive he can be when the game is on the line as arguably the most athletic point guard in the league behind only Russell Westbrook, adding an athletic shooting guard alongside him would elevate the Grizzlies offense and give them one of the best scoring backcourts in the NBA. On a regular basis, Morant and Powell would lead explosive fast breaks and fire it up from 3-point range.

Not to mention how many posters and highlight videos these two might generate during the season with their dexterity around the rim and huge throwdowns over opposing defenders. Powell and Ja Morant would create a top-five backcourt, giving Memphis a well-balanced starting five capable of competing with any team in the league. Signing Norman Powell during NBA free agency in 2021 would be the obvious option for Memphis if they desire a more high-octane scoring assault.

Powell would improve Memphis’ chances of making a long playoff run.

After defeating the Warriors in the play-in tournament to face the number one-seeded Utah Jazz in the first round of the NBA Playoffs last season, Memphis showed a lot of potential. Even though the Grizzlies lost the series in five games, they showed a lot of heart in the first few games and will try to carry that energy into next season. Nonetheless, losing a first-round series in five games shows that a club still has a long way to go in order to catch up to the top tier of its own conference’s opponents.

Adding Powell to a starting lineup that already includes Morant, Dillon Brooks, Jalen Jackson Jr., and Steven Adams would give the Grizzlies a dynamic new starting five that would shock the NBA.

Morant and Powell’s scoring, agility, and boundless athleticism, along with a frontcourt of Brooks, Jackson Jr., and Adams, would transform the Grizzlies into an outstanding two-way team capable of elevating their position in the Western Conference’s always tough Western Conference.

This would also improve their chances of reaching the NBA playoffs’ second round. With Adams in the frontcourt, adding Powell would provide Morant with a solid backcourt teammate and give Memphis their strongest starting lineup since reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2013. Norman Powell would be the best choice at scoring guard this summer if the Grizzlies want to take the next step and create a genuine playoff threat.
