Tottenham have turned down a £125 million bid from Manchester City for Harry Kane, but the striker remains hopeful of joining the Citizens before the summer transfer window ends.
Pep Guardiola has made no secret of his desire to acquire England captain Kane in order to replace Sergio Aguero and boost a Man City team that has already been strengthened by £100 million acquisition Jack Grealish.
Kane reportedly told Tottenham CEO Daniel Levy that he intended to go earlier in the summer, with sources claiming that he agreed to depart if the club failed to win a trophy or finished outside the top four last season.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Kane has made a new appeal to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to honor the deal he believes they struck, but the Spurs chairman is refusing to even consider a possible move, despite Man City’s £125 million offer.
That price would set a new British transfer record, but Levy is said to be adamant about not selling Kane, who thinks he should be permitted to join the Premier League winners before the end of the month.
Kane was unable to play in Tottenham’s 1-0 victory against City on the opening weekend of the new season because he is still recovering from a late return to club duty.
During his lengthy career at Tottenham, the 28-year-old has grown into one of the greatest players in the world, scoring 221 goals in 336 appearances.
Gary Neville claimed ‘something has occurred’ about his future at Tottenham after being left out of the club’s first Premier League match against Manchester City, and indicated it was a hint he was going.
‘Every other England player that was involved in the Euros has been engaged this weekend,’ the former Manchester United and England defender told Sky Sports. If there was no question about Harry Kane’s future, he would be here today.
‘I saw it as a sign that he was gone.’ The most well-known player is not present at this stadium. It was unexpected to not see him today. That informed me that he was no longer alive today.
‘I may be totally incorrect.’ I’m looking forward to seeing him play for Tottenham. Harry Kane – he’s late, he’s in isolation, he’s not here today – something’s up, something’s occurred.’

After Sunday’s match in north London, both new Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola declined to be drawn on Kane’s future.
Nuno stated after his first match in charge of the club, ‘We are extremely fortunate to have him.’
When asked whether Kane will play against Wolves this weekend in the Premier League, Nuno said, “Harry Kane is one of the greatest players in the world, honestly.”
‘He needs to prepare and assist the team.’ We have to travel to Portugal [for the Europa Conference League] on Thursday before we can worry about Wolves.’
