Bloatcrawl 2 is a free, open source (GPL) game that I’ve been working on for a couple of years. It’s a roguelike dungeon crawler with a Cthulhu theme, and it runs well enough on Windows 7, 8 and 10. It’s not a deep game and it’s not a long game, but it has a lot of content and it’s a lot of fun.

Bloatcrawl 2 (DCSS), whose full name is Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup: Bloatcrawl 2, is the Android version of this fun’fork’ for DCSS, which, while offering a very comparable experience to the original, also allows us to play totally insane games. Everything that made the original game wonderful, such as its excellent accessibility and tactical fighting, is back, but we’ll also discover a slew of new features that will mostly surprise the most seasoned players.
The multitude of races and classes from which to select is the primary surprise of the ‘vanilla’ edition of the game. This time, we’ll have 69 classes and 69 races to choose from, or, to put it another way, over 4000 possible combinations with which to begin a new game. As is customary, certain race and class combinations will provide considerably easier gameplay experiences than others, with others presenting near-impossible difficulties. The hedgehog (which looks eerily like Sonic) and the turtle are two of the new races (curiously similar to a Ninja Turtle). We’ll also have the uncle (a guy looking for his nephew) and the witness as new courses (who will preach the word of his god). Despite the fact that the difficulty level has dropped with the recent game updates, it is still high enough to wipe out the majority of our heroes.
The control mechanism is, of obviously, the most significant change between DCSS: Bloatcrawl 2 and its Windows and Mac versions. And, in reality, there isn’t much of a difference. At the end of the day, we’ll have to rely on the virtual keyboard for almost all of our actions. Yes, the virtual keyboard will take up the whole bottom half of the screen, allowing us to utilize the same commands as on the desktop version. If we are unsure how to accomplish anything, we may just hit the ‘?’ button. We’ll receive a full set of commands as a result. In addition, we may raise or reduce the size of the map by pressing the ‘back’ button on our smartphone as if it were the ‘escape’ key, as well as the volume up and down keys.
It’s worth noting that among elder DCSS players, DCSS: Bloatcrawl 2 is practically an inside joke. That said, it’s a ton of fun on its own, enabling us to design bizarre characters with whom we may explore procedurally generated dungeons and have an endless amount of adventures.
DCSS: Bloatcrawl 2 is a fantastic fork of one of the most popular and well-received roguelikes ever. This version of the game also includes a set of ’tiles,’ which look fantastic and add to the game’s overall appeal.
